PEEK material has been recognized by numerous medical device manufacturers and surgeons for its excellent performance and quality, and has been adopted in fields such as orthopedics, dentistry, and surgery.
PEEK Capillary Advantages
High Temperature Resistance:
It has a high glass transition temperature (Tg = 143°C) and melting point (Tm = 343°C), a high heat deflection temperature under load of 316°C, and a transient operating temperature of up to 320°C.
Mechanical Properties:
It exhibits both rigidity and flexibility, and its fatigue resistance under alternating stress is particularly outstanding, comparable to that of alloys.
Self-lubricating Properties:
It exhibits excellent sliding properties, making it suitable for applications requiring a low coefficient of friction and high wear resistance.
PEEK modified with a mixture of carbon fiber and graphite in a specific ratio exhibits even better self-lubricating properties.
Corrosion Resistance:
With the exception of concentrated sulfuric acid, PEEK is insoluble in all solvents, strong acids, and strong bases at room temperature. It is also hydrolysis-resistant and has very low water absorption, demonstrating high chemical stability.
Flame Retardancy:
It is self-extinguishing and can achieve UL standard 94V-0 rating even without the addition of any flame retardants.
Processability:
It can be processed using a variety of methods, including injection molding, extrusion, compression molding, and melt spinning.
Peel Resistance:
Its excellent peel resistance allows it to be made into thinly coated wires or magnet wires, allowing for use under harsh conditions.
Fatigue Resistance:
It has the best fatigue resistance of all resins.
Radiation Resistance:
It has excellent resistance to high radiation exposure, exceeding that of polystyrene, the most resistant general-purpose resin.
It can be formulated into high-performance materials that maintain excellent insulation properties even after gamma irradiation doses of up to 1100 Mrad.
Hydrolysis Resistance:
PEEK and its composite materials are unaffected by the chemical effects of water and high-pressure steam.
Products made from this material can maintain their excellent properties even after continuous use in high-temperature, high-pressure water.
Safety and Environmental Protection:
PEEK exhibits low smoke and toxic gas emissions. Like many organic materials, PEEK primarily produces carbon dioxide and water when decomposed at high temperatures.
Electrical Properties:
PEEK exhibits excellent electrical insulation properties, which are maintained over a wide temperature range. Its dielectric loss is also low at high frequencies.
Dimensional Stability:
PEEK has a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Changes in environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity have little effect on the dimensions of PEEK parts, making it suitable for use in applications requiring high dimensional accuracy.
